Nghiên cứu về mối liên hệ giữa việc xem tình dục không đeo bao cao su trong các phương tiện truyền thông khiêu dâm (SEM) và tham gia vào các hành vi có nguy cơ cho thấy cần có thông điệp an toàn tình dục dựa trên SEM (ví dụ, PrEP, sử dụng bao cao su), mặc dù ít nghiên cứu xem xét sự sẵn lòng của người xem trong việc xem SEM có chứa các thông điệp phòng ngừa HIV/STI.
