Phương pháp Dữ liệu cắt ngang về trình độ học vấn, hành vi sức khỏe, thừa cân và béo phì từ các tham gia viên (25–75 tuổi; Eindhoven, Hà Lan) của cuộc khảo sát năm 2014 trong nghiên cứu GLOBE đã được sử dụng (N = 2702). Vốn xã hội (“Có bao nhiêu người bạn thân của bạn có cùng trình độ học vấn như bạn?”) được phân loại thành hai nhóm: cầu nối (‘khoảng một nửa’, ‘một số’, hoặc ‘không có bạn nào của tôi’), hoặc gắn bó (‘tất cả’ hoặc ‘hầu hết bạn bè của tôi’). Các mô hình hồi quy logistic được sử dụng để nghiên cứu xem liệu vốn xã hội cầu nối có liên quan đến các hành vi liên quan đến sức khỏe (ví dụ: hút thuốc, chế độ ăn uống, hoạt động thể chất), thừa cân và béo phì hay không, và liệu các mối liên hệ này có khác nhau giữa các nhóm có trình độ học vấn thấp và cao không. Kết quả Trong nhóm có trình độ học vấn thấp, việc có vốn xã hội cầu nối (tức là có bạn bè có trình độ học vấn cao hơn) làm giảm khả năng báo cáo về tình trạng thừa cân (OR 0.73, 95% CI 0.52–1.03) và béo phì (OR 0.58, 95% CI 0.38–0.88), so với nhóm có trình độ học vấn thấp với vốn xã hội gắn bó. Ngược lại, trong nhóm có trình độ học vấn cao, việc có vốn xã hội cầu nối (tức là có bạn bè có trình độ học vấn thấp hơn) làm tăng khả năng báo cáo về việc hút thuốc hàng ngày (OR 2.11, 95% CI 1.37–3.27), không đạp xe vào thời gian rảnh (OR 1.55, 95% CI 1.17–2.04), không đạt được khuyến nghị về lượng rau quả (OR 2.09, 95% CI 1.50–2.91), và tiêu thụ thịt cao (OR 1.39, 95% CI 1.05–1.83), so với nhóm có trình độ học vấn cao với vốn xã hội gắn bó. Kết luận Vốn xã hội cầu nối có mối quan hệ khác nhau với hành vi sức khỏe giữa các nhóm có trình độ học vấn thấp và cao. Các chính sách nhằm giảm phân hóa giữa các nhóm có trình độ học vấn có thể giảm thiểu sự bất bình đẳng về thừa cân, béo phì và các hành vi không lành mạnh.
