Khắc Kỷ là một truyền thống triết học cổ xưa với mục tiêu dạy cho cá nhân cách sống đạo đức và đạt được sự yên tĩnh. Khắc Kỷ được xây dựng dựa trên khái niệm về số phận và giới hạn quyền lực của cá nhân trong việc thay đổi số phận của họ (tức là các hoàn cảnh bên ngoài). Nhiều thực hành Khắc Kỷ nhằm nhắc nhở bản thân về giới hạn của quyền lực mà họ có và chuyển sự chú ý cũng như mối quan tâm đến các hiện tượng mà họ có thể kiểm soát. Mục tiêu là nuôi dưỡng một locus kiểm soát nội tâm hợp lý và lành mạnh. Có rất ít sự khám phá về các truyền thống triết học trong tài liệu tư vấn di truyền, và những thực hành Khắc Kỷ có thể phù hợp với công việc tư vấn di truyền tâm lý xã hội. Các chủ đề và ứng dụng của triết lý Khắc Kỷ được khám phá ở đây, và những thực hành này có thể hỗ trợ bệnh nhân phát triển một locus kiểm soát nội tâm. Chủ đề định hướng lại nhận thức của một người về quyền kiểm soát đối với chẩn đoán, sức khỏe, hoặc tình huống của họ có thể mang lại lợi ích trong việc thích ứng tâm lý xã hội của bệnh nhân. Công trình này nhằm giới thiệu cho các tư vấn viên di truyền về các ứng dụng trị liệu của triết học Khắc Kỷ có thể hỗ trợ thực hành tư vấn nâng cao. Chúng tôi hy vọng sẽ khơi dậy sự khám phá và thảo luận trong tương lai liên quan đến phương pháp này và các phương pháp tương tự trong tư vấn di truyền lâm sàng.
