Gần đây, chúng tôi đã báo cáo rằng nồng độ Hsp70 hòa tan cao (sHsp70) là một yếu tố dự đoán tỷ lệ tử vong đáng kể trong thời gian theo dõi gần 3 năm ở bệnh nhân ung thư đại trực tràng. Mối liên hệ này mạnh nhất ở nhóm bệnh nhân nữ dưới 70 tuổi cũng như ở những người trong giai đoạn bệnh ít tiến triển hơn tại thời điểm bắt đầu. Theo những quan sát này, việc đo nồng độ sHsp70 trong huyết thanh là một dấu hiệu dự đoán hữu ích, không phụ thuộc vào giai đoạn, trong ung thư đại trực tràng, đặc biệt ở những bệnh nhân không có di căn xa. Vì nhiều dữ liệu trong tài liệu cho thấy việc đo protein phản ứng C (CRP) và các protein giai đoạn cấp tính khác (APPs) cũng có thể phù hợp để dự đoán tỷ lệ tử vong của bệnh nhân ung thư đại trực tràng, nên việc nghiên cứu sự ảnh hưởng của sHsp70 và các APP khác có liên quan hoặc độc lập dường như là hợp lý. Để trả lời câu hỏi này, chúng tôi đã đo nồng độ CRP cũng như các APP liên quan đến bổ thể khác (C1 inhibitor, C3 và C9) cùng với thành phần bổ thể MASP-2 trong huyết thanh của 175 bệnh nhân ung thư đại trực tràng có biết nồng độ sHsp70, đã được sử dụng trong nghiên cứu trước đó của chúng tôi. Nồng độ cao (trên mức trung vị) của CRP, chất ức chế esterase C1 (C1-INH) và sHsp70 được phát hiện là có liên quan độc lập với sự sống sót kém ở bệnh nhân, trong khi không quan sát thấy mối liên hệ như vậy với các protein khác. Theo phân tích hồi quy Cox tỷ lệ nguy cơ điều chỉnh, hiệu ứng cộng thêm của nồng độ sHsp70, CRP và C1-INH cao đối với sự sống sót của bệnh nhân vượt quá so với sHsp70 cao đơn độc, với tỷ lệ nguy cơ (HR) là 2.83 (1.13–70.9). Trong một số tiểu nhóm bệnh nhân, chẳng hạn như ở nữ giới [HR 4.80 (1.07–21.60)] hoặc ở bệnh nhân ≤70 tuổi [HR 11.53 (2.78–47.70)], thậm chí đã thu được sự khác biệt lớn hơn.
