Helios 1+helios 2: a summary of IMF observations performed in the inner solar system during 1975–1981

The experimental observations performed by Helios 1 and Helios 2 spacecraft allow one to monitor the IMF conditions in the inner solars ystem (0.3≦r≦0.6A.U.) over many years. The field orientation closely corresponds to the theoretical predictions and the histograms of the distributions of the angular elements are possibly more peaked around the expected values than those ones obtained at greater heliocentric distances. The field behaviour, as examined over many years, does not show any clear long-term variation and only supports some evidence for a field modulation in the rising part of the new solar cycle.
