Bài báo này xem xét những khoảng trống quy định trong việc bảo vệ quyền giới tính của vận động viên trong thể thao. Việc quản lý nhân quyền trong thể thao ngày càng bị scrutinized và đồng thời, các thông số xã hội về giới tính và bản dạng giới cũng đang thay đổi. Cùng nhau, những phát triển hiện tại này tạo ra một câu đố quy định khi xác định cách cân bằng lợi ích của thể thao với việc bảo vệ quyền lợi của những vận động viên không phù hợp với các thể loại nhị phân trong thể thao. Mặc dù có một khung nhân quyền mạnh mẽ bảo vệ quyền giới, mối quan hệ phức tạp giữa luật pháp và thể thao khiến cho các vận động viên rơi vào tình huống dễ bị tổn thương, với trách nhiệm giải trình của các cơ quan thể thao hạn chế và quyền tiếp cận các biện pháp pháp lý bị hạn chế.
