Four Chapters in the Life of a Student Experiential Group: A Model of Facilitation

This paper describes a model for facilitating an experiential learning group for social work students. Training groups are an essential component of the social work curriculum, designed to enhance professional identity and skills. The descriptive model offered here describes four chapters in the life of a social work student experiential group. This paper is an attempt to integrate dynamic interactions, developmental stages, and major group conflicts, and highlight interventions based on the understanding of the conductors' inner conflicts and conflict resolution. Special consideration is given to the groups' composition and the local context in which the groups are being held.
