Mục tiêu của nghiên cứu này là điều tra mối liên hệ giữa cảm giác thèm ăn và số lần cố gắng giảm cân trong suốt cuộc đời, như một chỉ số thay thế cho những khó khăn trong việc duy trì cân nặng sau khi giảm. Các tham gia nghiên cứu gồm 100 bệnh nhân ngoại trú từ 25 tuổi trở lên với chỉ số khối cơ thể (BMI) ≥ 25, được nhập viện tại ba trung tâm y tế để điều trị béo phì và thừa cân ở Rome (Ý). Những bệnh nhân này được yêu cầu điền vào Bảng hỏi Cảm giác Thèm ăn Đặc điểm và Tình trạng (FCQ-T). Những bệnh nhân đã có năm lần hoặc nhiều hơn trong các đợt giảm cân (so với những bệnh nhân có bốn đợt điều trị hoặc ít hơn) đã có sự khác biệt ở tất cả các khía cạnh của FCQ-T. Cảm giác thèm ăn có liên quan đến những khó khăn hơn trong việc duy trì giảm cân sau các can thiệp giảm cân.
