Ký ức lấp lánh (FBMs) là những hồi ức chi tiết về bối cảnh mà mọi người lần đầu tiên nghe về các sự kiện quan trọng. Nghiên cứu hiện tại điều tra ba mô hình về sự hình thành và duy trì FBM. Hai mô hình đã được đề xuất trước đó trong tài liệu (Brown & Kulik, 1977; Conway et al., 1994). Một mô hình thứ ba về FBM tích hợp các lý thuyết về FBM và các phát triển gần đây trong lĩnh vực cảm xúc được đề xuất. Nghiên cứu hiện tại so sánh ba mô hình cạnh tranh này bằng cách điều tra các FBM mà công dân Bỉ phát triển khi biết về cái chết bất ngờ của vua Baudouin. Mô hình phương trình cấu trúc cho thấy rằng, so với hai mô hình đã được đề xuất trước đó, mô hình thứ ba, với việc xem xét các quá trình cảm xúc, giải thích tốt hơn về FBM.
