Cảm xúc được biết đến là có khả năng lây lan giữa con người, một quá trình được gọi là sự lây lan cảm xúc. Cả cảm xúc tích cực và tiêu cực đều được cho là có khả năng lây lan, nhưng sự lây lan hàng loạt của cảm xúc tiêu cực đã thu hút được nhiều sự chú ý nhất do nguy cơ của nó đối với xã hội. Việc sử dụng các kỹ thuật dựa trên tác nhân để mô phỏng sự lây lan cảm xúc trong đám đông đã phát triển trong thập kỷ qua và một loạt các cơ chế lây lan và ứng dụng đã được xem xét.
