Dieser Artikel skizziert die zentralen Elemente der Gesundheitsreform der Obama-Administration. Dabei wird insbesondere gefragt, inwieweit bei der Reform von einem grundlegenden Wandel in der US-Gesundheitspolitik gesprochen werden kann. Um eine Antwort auf diese Frage zu finden, wird die Grundstruktur des Gesundheitssystems in den USA vor der Reform skizziert, um dann die zentralen Inhalte der Reform vor dem Hintergrund der Krisensymptome im Gesundheitswesen der USA zu diskutieren. Im Anschluss wird noch ein Blick auf den politischen Widerstand gegen die Reform insbesondere in der Implementierungsphase geworfen.
