Nghiên cứu này đã tái hiện nghiên cứu về các điều kiện siêu nhận thức thông qua một bàn cờ simulating một trò chơi cờ vua đơn giản, trong một môi trường hoàn toàn trực tuyến, với những người tham gia ở trong nhà của họ. Các cặp người tham gia phải cùng nhau di chuyển hai quân mã theo hình chữ L. Mỗi thử nghiệm kết thúc khi hai quân mã gặp nhau ở các ô kề nhau. Các ô mà quân mã cần gặp nhau (sản phẩm tổng hợp - aggregate product [AP]) thay đổi trong hai điều kiện khác nhau, sử dụng thiết kế ABAB. Trong điều kiện A, quân mã có thể gặp nhau ở bất kỳ đâu trên bàn cờ, và không có hậu quả nào. Trong điều kiện B, ma trận các ô có thể củng cố dần bị thu hẹp qua bốn giai đoạn và các cuộc gặp gỡ của quân mã được theo sau bởi các thông điệp khác nhau khi đúng hoặc sai (hậu quả văn hóa). Trong nhóm 1, năm cặp được phép giao tiếp. Trong nhóm 2, các cặp không có quyền truy cập vào cuộc gọi video.
