Sau khi uống l-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-dopa) cho bê con, nồng độ L-dopa, dopamine, norepinephrine và hormone cận giáp trong huyết tương tăng lên, trong khi prolactin và canxi giảm xuống, trong khi nồng độ epinephrine không thay đổi. Sự giảm prolactin có khả năng xảy ra do quá trình chuyển đổi L-dopa thành dopamine (tại vùng dưới đồi), trong khi sự tăng hormone cận giáp là do hạ canxi máu, do dopamine tăng cao và có thể do norepinephrine.
