Đại dịch COVID-19 đã dẫn đến việc nhiều chính phủ quyết định đóng cửa trường học trong vài tuần vào mùa xuân năm 2020. Bằng chứng thực nghiệm về tác động của việc đóng cửa trường học liên quan đến COVID-19 đối với thành tích học tập chỉ mới bắt đầu xuất hiện. Công trình hiện tại nhằm mục đích cung cấp một cái nhìn tổng quát hệ thống đầu tiên về các nghiên cứu dựa trên bằng chứng về tác động chung và khác biệt của việc đóng cửa trường học liên quan đến COVID-19 vào mùa xuân năm 2020 đối với thành tích học sinh trong giáo dục tiểu học và trung học. Kết quả cho thấy có tác động tiêu cực của việc đóng cửa trường học đối với thành tích học sinh, đặc biệt là ở học sinh nhỏ tuổi và học sinh từ các gia đình có thu nhập thấp. Hơn nữa, có thể xác định một số biện pháp có thể làm giảm bớt những tác động tiêu cực này. Các phát hiện được thảo luận trong bối cảnh những hậu quả có thể xảy ra đối với chính sách giáo dục quốc gia khi đối mặt với việc đóng cửa trường học trong tương lai.
