Ảnh hưởng của sự kết hợp phân bón NPK đến sự phát triển của bệnh đốm mắt đã được nghiên cứu cả trong nhà kính và ngoài đồng. Mức độ thấp của phân đạm (urê) đã được phát hiện làm giảm mức độ nghiêm trọng của bệnh đốm mắt ở lúa mì so với các đối chứng không có phân bón. Tuy nhiên, mức độ nghiêm trọng của bệnh đốm mắt tăng lên khi liều lượng phân đạm vượt quá 60 kg/ha. Sự kết hợp giữa urê và photpho làm tăng mức độ nghiêm trọng của bệnh đốm mắt, trong khi sự kết hợp với kali lại làm giảm mức độ nghiêm trọng. Một "khuyến nghị" được đưa ra cho việc áp dụng như sau: 90 kgN/ha hoặc 90 kgN: 30 kgP/ha: 30 kgK/ha.
