The trend toward greater equality in Taiwan has been noted by other writers (Ranis, 1977).InPeru, the deterioration in the share of the poorest groups, despite a slight tendency toward greater overall equity as seen in our data, has been noted by Webb (1977, pp.42, 94). Costa Rica is generally felt to be experiencing greater equality (Loehr, 1978). Alamgir (1975) presents data for Bangladesh which show trends similar to the one we show here.Ineach of these cases, the general direction of the change was found to be consistent with analyses made in other more descriptive reports.
See Alamgir (1975) on Bangladesh and Pakistan, and Ranis (1977) on Korea. Jain(1975, pp.82-83) reports upon several additional sources indicating a slight egalitarian trend inPakistan.
Comparable, 1975, on inequality in twelve developed countries at two points in time. These data were incorporated in earlier drafts of this paper but were eventually eliminated to focus upon the LDCs
