Các ảnh hưởng của chu kỳ thủy triều đến sự phân bố của plankton tự dưỡng đã được nghiên cứu tại một đầm lầy siêu phì dưỡng được chỉ định là khu vực cảnh quan. Kết quả cho thấy rằng nồng độ cao nhất của picoplankton và phytoplankton được tìm thấy ở phần giữa và phần trong của đầm lầy, bất kể thời điểm thủy triều. Kết quả MDS cũng cho thấy rằng cộng đồng phytoplankton, chủ yếu được chi phối bởi Ceratium furca, tương tự giữa các trạm trong vịnh nội trong cả thời điểm triều cường và triều thấp. Kết quả lấy mẫu theo chuỗi thời gian tại kênh cửa vào-cửa ra cho thấy hầu như lượng phytoplankton và picoplankton được mang qua kênh trong thời kỳ triều cường và triều thấp là tương đương nhau, không có xu hướng biến động dinh dưỡng ngoại trừ phốt phát, đã có một sự mất mát ròng từ đầm lầy. Kết quả cho thấy rằng chu kỳ thủy triều không hiệu quả trong việc rửa trôi phytoplankton và picoplankton ra khỏi đầm lầy, và việc nở hoa của phyto- và picoplankton là không thể tránh khỏi nếu tình hình vẫn giữ nguyên. Cần thực hiện các bước để giảm thiểu tình trạng phì dưỡng thay vì dựa vào quá trình tự nhiên như chu kỳ thủy triều.
