Dựa trên Dự án của Freud, tác giả đề xuất một mô hình phát triển trí não mà cấu trúc cảm giác–vận động của nó được xác định bởi một động lực dao động từ trán đến chẩm với chức năng kép: dao động giải thích sự hình thành và duy trì sự hòa hợp giữa mẹ và trẻ trong sự phát triển trí não, đồng thời cũng giải thích cách hoạt động của động lực dự án–trực tiếp làm nền tảng cho lý thuyết phân tâm học.
