Suy giảm môi trường, lạm phát và thất nghiệp chắc chắn là những vấn đề toàn cầu hiện nay. Tuy nhiên, vẫn chưa có nghiên cứu sâu nào về cách mà tỷ lệ thất nghiệp và lạm phát ảnh hưởng đến chất lượng môi trường, đặc biệt là khi xem xét tình huống không đối xứng ở các quốc gia sản xuất dầu. Khoảng trống trong tài liệu này đã thúc đẩy nghiên cứu này nhằm điều tra cách mà môi trường (được đại diện bởi lượng khí thải CO2) phản ứng với những cú sốc không đối xứng trong tỷ lệ lạm phát và thất nghiệp bằng phương pháp mô hình NARDL trên bảng. Nghiên cứu cũng xem xét xem giả thuyết đường Phillips môi trường (EPC) có đúng trong bối cảnh các quốc gia OPEC châu Phi trong giai đoạn 1990 đến 2019 không. Nghiên cứu đưa ra ba phát hiện thú vị. Đầu tiên, lượng khí thải CO2 có mối liên hệ tiêu cực với tỷ lệ thất nghiệp và lạm phát, có nghĩa là việc bảo vệ môi trường lành mạnh sẽ phải đánh đổi với hai kết quả không mong muốn: mất việc làm và giảm sức mua. Thứ hai, phân tích không đối xứng cho thấy cả cú sốc thất nghiệp tiêu cực và cú sốc lạm phát tích cực đều có tác động lớn hơn đến lượng khí thải CO2 so với kịch bản ngược lại. Cuối cùng, bằng chứng dài hạn tồn tại để hỗ trợ sự hiện diện của EPC ở những quốc gia này.
