Việc truy cập và sử dụng công nghệ số hứa hẹn sẽ có những tác động tích cực đối với việc hòa nhập xã hội và kinh tế của những người trưởng thành trẻ tuổi có khuyết tật phát triển, cũng như hỗ trợ sự tự chủ của họ và thuận lợi hóa quá trình hội nhập vào xã hội. Chúng tôi đã thực hiện một đánh giá sơ bộ, áp dụng phương pháp của Arksey và O’Malley (Tạp chí Phương pháp Nghiên cứu Xã hội Quốc tế, 8(1), 19-32, Arksey và O’Malley 2005), đối với các bài báo từ các tạp chí đánh peer-reviewed, nhằm kiểm tra những rào cản trong việc truy cập và sử dụng công nghệ số để hỗ trợ nhu cầu trong giai đoạn chuyển tiếp (liên quan đến giáo dục, cuộc sống hàng ngày, việc hòa nhập cộng đồng và việc làm) của những người trưởng thành trẻ tuổi có khuyết tật phát triển. Tổng cộng có 29 nghiên cứu được tìm thấy đáp ứng các tiêu chí đưa ra trong đánh giá. Những rào cản được xác định bao gồm đào tạo, khả năng chi trả, tính sẵn có, cơ sở hạ tầng, thiết kế, thiếu sự phù hợp với nhu cầu, quyền truy cập vào các hoạt động cộng đồng, mức độ văn hóa và các sự điều chỉnh cần thiết.
