Die zentrale Hörbahn wurde beim Meerschweinchen mit der [14C]2-Deoxyglucosemethode bei Ruhe sowie bei mon- und binauraler Stimulation markiert. Die Reizung erfolgte mit weißem Rauschen im freien Schallfeld. In den Autoradiogrammen waren alle akustischen Kerne markiert, den höchsten Stoffwechselumsatz zeigten nach Stimulation der dorsale Cochleariskern, der laterale Kern der oberen Olive und der Colliculus inferior. Der auditorische Cortex war von umgebenden Arealen nicht abgrenzbar. Monaurale Beschallung reduzierte die Markierung kontralateral im ventralen Cochleariskern sowie ipsilateral im medialen Trapezkern und dorsomedialen periolivären Kern sowie im Colliculus inferior.
