Mức độ kẽm, đồng, sắt và mangan đã được đo lường ở vùng hồi hải mã, đồi thị, hồi cinguli, vùng dưới đồi và trong các vỏ não trước trán, đỉnh, thái dương và chẩm của não cừu non bằng phương pháp quang phổ hấp thụ nguyên tử với ngọn lửa. Phương pháp bổ sung tiêu chuẩn cũng đã được áp dụng cho các mẫu và quan sát thấy rằng không có sự can thiệp nào từ ma trận ảnh hưởng đến việc xác định các nguyên tố quan tâm. Trong việc xác định Cu, một ống bẫy nguyên tử có khe đã được sử dụng để cải thiện độ nhạy. Phân tích phương sai một chiều đã được sử dụng để đánh giá thống kê kết quả cho từng nguyên tố.
