Một số khía cạnh của miễn dịch huyết thanh và trạng thái của niêm mạc ruột jejunum đã được nghiên cứu ở 22 bệnh nhân bị bệnh viêm da dày sừng herpes (DH) điển hình. Trạng thái niêm mạc được đặc trưng trên cơ sở các phát hiện miễn dịch và mô bệnh lý cùng với phân tích chức năng về tình trạng hấp thụ kém và hoạt động của disaccharidase. Không có bất thường đáng kể nào trong các immunoglobulin huyết thanh, trong khi nồng độ IgA và C3 của các phức hợp miễn dịch trong tuần hoàn (được thiết lập bằng cách kết tủa polyethylene glycol và kỹ thuật khuếch tán miễn dịch ngược) đã tăng cao đáng kể. Các kháng thể tự động cụ thể theo đa cơ quan loại IgG có mặt trong huyết thanh của 95% trong số 22 bệnh nhân.
