Gordonia terrea IIPN1 đã được phân lập và đặc trưng hóa từ đất thu thập tại các khu vực khoan dầu. Chủng vi sinh vật này có khả năng phân hủy pyridine và 4-methylpyridine như nguồn carbon và nitrogen duy nhất. Chủng vi sinh vật này không thể phân hủy các dẫn xuất pyridine khác. Các tế bào đang phát triển đã phân hủy hoàn toàn 30 mM pyridine trong 120 giờ với năng suất sinh trưởng đạt 0,29 g g−1. Các tế bào nghỉ được nuôi cấy trên 5 mM pyridine đã phân hủy 4-methylpyridine mà không gặp thời gian trì hoãn và ngược lại. Nguồn carbon và nitrogen bổ sung không làm thay đổi đáng kể tốc độ sinh trưởng đặc hiệu và tốc độ phân hủy của các tế bào nghỉ.
