Cylindrospermopsin (CYN) là một loại cytotoxin được sản xuất bởi một số loài vi tảo lam, xuất hiện trên toàn thế giới. CYN đã được chứng minh là có phổ hoạt động sinh học rộng rãi trong các tế bào động vật, liên quan đến độc tính gan, độc tính gen, độc tính tế bào và tiềm năng gây ung thư, và được coi là một trong những yếu tố gây ra ngộ độc ở con người tại Đảo Palm (Úc) và Caruaru (Brazil). Chất này có thể xâm nhập vào cơ thể qua nhiều con đường khác nhau, bao gồm việc tiêu thụ nước, cá và hải sản, cũng như nuốt phải một cách tình cờ hoặc hít phải phun sương aerosol trong quá trình sử dụng giải trí các hồ chứa bị ô nhiễm bởi bùng phát vi tảo lam.
