Viêm dạ dày tự miễn là kết quả của phản ứng miễn dịch tự miễn do tế bào T CD4 trung gian, nhắm vào H/K-ATPase của dạ dày. Ban đầu không có triệu chứng, tổn thương dạ dày trở nên rõ ràng ở người thông qua sự phát triển của thiếu máu ác tính nguyên bào khổng lồ do thiếu vitamin B12. Các vấn đề nổi bật trong bệnh này liên quan đến dịch tễ học của nó, miễn dịch di truyền, vai trò của Helicobacter pylori như một yếu tố kích thích nhiễm trùng thông qua sự bắt chước phân tử, quá trình miễn dịch bệnh lý của nó, các bệnh tự miễn đặc hiệu cho cơ quan liên quan, chẩn đoán trong phòng thí nghiệm, và các phương pháp điều trị nhằm chữa khỏi bệnh.
