Nghiên cứu xem xét mối quan hệ giữa định hướng học hỏi, tính linh hoạt chiến lược và hiệu suất được đánh giá trong một bối cảnh quốc tế tập trung vào các nhà sản xuất xuất khẩu có quan hệ hợp đồng với các nhà phân phối nước ngoài. Việc áp dụng định hướng học hỏi - phát triển các kỹ năng trong việc tạo ra, thu nhận và chuyển giao kiến thức - được cho là có ảnh hưởng đáng kể đến hiệu suất. Tuy nhiên, trong nghiên cứu hiện tại, mối quan hệ giữa định hướng học hỏi và hiệu suất không phải là trực tiếp, mà tìm thấy là chảy gián tiếp thông qua tính linh hoạt chiến lược.
