Vắc xin chống lại các tác nhân gây bệnh virus thường được cấu thành từ các protein tái tổ hợp được biểu hiện trong các hệ thống khác nhau. Các protein này được biểu hiện bởi baculovirus tái tổ hợp đã được chứng minh là hiệu quả cho việc tiêm phòng. Đặc biệt, sau khi tối ưu hóa việc sử dụng mã codon, một lượng lớn protein virus tái tổ hợp có thể được thu hoạch, có khả năng tự lắp ráp thành các hạt giống virus tương tự (VLPs).
