Mục tiêu của nghiên cứu này là ước tính chi phí trực tiếp và gián tiếp của bệnh đột quỵ ở bệnh nhân và bạn đời của họ. Các chi phí trực tiếp và gián tiếp được tính toán dựa trên hồ sơ từ Đăng ký Bệnh nhân Quốc gia Đan Mạch với 93.047 bệnh nhân bị đột quỵ thiếu máu cục bộ, 26.012 bệnh nhân bị đột quỵ xuất huyết và 128.824 bệnh nhân bị đột quỵ không xác định, và so sánh với 364.433, 103.741 và 500.490 nhóm đối chứng tương ứng. Không phụ thuộc vào độ tuổi và giới tính, bệnh nhân đột quỵ có tỷ lệ tử vong, tỷ lệ tiếp xúc với dịch vụ y tế, mức sử dụng thuốc cao hơn và tỷ lệ thất nghiệp, thu nhập thấp hơn, và nhận các khoản trợ cấp xã hội cao hơn so với nhóm đối chứng.
