Tóm tắt
Rác thải trong môi trường biển, đặc biệt là nhựa, là một mối đe dọa đáng kể đối với động vật có vú biển lớn. Các loài cá voi được biết đến là có xu hướng nuốt phải hoặc bị mắc kẹt trong rác thải biển, điều này có thể ảnh hưởng đến cá thể và quần thể của chúng. Đông Nam Á là một điểm nóng về đa dạng sinh học và có nhiều loài động vật có vú biển đa dạng. Tuy nhiên, còn nhiều khoảng trống kiến thức liên quan đến tác động của rác thải trong khu vực này do thiếu chuyên gia khảo sát các bờ biển rộng lớn. Nghiên cứu này nhằm khắc phục những khoảng trống này bằng cách sử dụng mạng xã hội, thu thập dữ liệu từ các bài đăng trên Facebook liên quan đến việc cá voi dạt bờ và rác thải trên khắp Đông Nam Á trong khoảng thời gian từ 2009 đến 2019. Kết quả cho thấy ít nhất 15 loài cá voi đã bị ảnh hưởng tiêu cực bởi rác thải, trong đó việc nuốt phải chủ yếu ảnh hưởng đến các loài sâu lặn.
