Tám kim loại nặng bao gồm Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Cd, Hg và Pb đã được nghiên cứu trong nước mặt và trầm tích từ hai hồ có liên kết với sông và không có liên kết với sông (Hồ Đông Đằng và Hồ Hồng Hà, tương ứng). Zn có nồng độ trung bình cao nhất trong nước mặt ở cả hai hồ. Phân tích tương quan Pearson, phân tích thành phần chính và phân tích cụm phân cấp cho thấy sự phân bố của Zn, Pb và As trong Hồ Đông Đằng và Zn, Cd và As trong Hồ Hồng Hà có liên quan đến hoạt động nhân tạo. Ni và Cr có liên quan đến các nguồn tự nhiên, trong khi Cu và Hg có nguồn gốc từ cả nguồn nhân tạo và tự nhiên.
