Chuỗi gen hoàn chỉnh của một virus mới, tạm thời được đặt tên là "Camellia sinensis badnavirus 1" (CSBV1), đã được xác định trong lá cây trà (Camellia sinensis) thu thập tại tỉnh An Huy, Trung Quốc. Chuỗi gen của CSBV1 có độ dài 8.195 bp và chứa ba khung đọc mở (ORFs), chia sẻ 68,6% độ đồng nhất trình tự nucleotide với chuỗi gen của virus Camellia lemon glow (CLGV) từ cây Camellia japonica. Cấu trúc gen của CSBV1 rất tương đồng với các thành viên của chi Badnavirus (họ Caulimoviridae). Phân tích phát sinh chủng loại cho thấy CSBV1, CLGV và virus sưng trái cacao tạo thành một nhánh riêng trong chi Badnavirus, từ đó gợi ý rằng CSBV1 là badnavirus đầu tiên lây nhiễm cây C. sinensis.
