Cạnh tranh hay bổ sung: mối quan hệ giữa các nhà trị liệu judo và bác sĩ đối với bệnh nhân cao tuổi mắc bệnh cơ xương khớp

Trong số các dịch vụ y tế bổ sung và thay thế có sẵn tại Nhật Bản, chỉ có các nhà trị liệu judo được bảo hiểm y tế quốc gia chi trả mà không cần giới thiệu từ bác sĩ. Nhiều bác sĩ chỉnh hình cho rằng các nhà trị liệu judo đã cướp đi bệnh nhân tiềm năng của họ. Nếu sự cạnh tranh như vậy tồn tại, có thể kỳ vọng rằng ít bệnh nhân sẽ đến thăm các bác sĩ chỉnh hình hơn ở những khu vực có nhiều bệnh nhân đến các nhà trị liệu judo. Do đó, chúng tôi đã khảo sát mối tương quan giữa số lượng bệnh nhân thăm các nhà trị liệu judo và số lượng bệnh nhân đến thăm các bác sĩ cho các bệnh lý cơ xương khớp. Trong một nghiên cứu cắt ngang bao gồm mỗi tỉnh ở Nhật Bản (n = 47), chúng tôi đã thu thập số liệu về số lượng cơ sở nhà trị liệu judo và bệnh nhân cao tuổi (trên 70 tuổi) đã đến thăm họ, cũng như số lượng bác sĩ chỉnh hình và bệnh nhân đến thăm bác sĩ cho các bệnh lý cơ xương khớp. Có sự tương quan tích cực giữa số lượng cơ sở nhà trị liệu judo và số lượng bệnh nhân cao tuổi đã thăm họ (r = 0.72, P < 0.01, n = 47), và giữa số lượng bác sĩ chỉnh hình và số lượng bệnh nhân cao tuổi đến thăm bác sĩ cho các bệnh lý cơ xương khớp (r = 0.32, P = 0.03). Tuy nhiên, không có tương quan đáng kể nào giữa số lượng bệnh nhân cao tuổi đến thăm các cơ sở nhà trị liệu judo và số lượng bệnh nhân thăm bác sĩ (r = 0.06, P = 0.68) cho các bệnh lý cơ xương khớp.
