Một công ty được coi là có mức độ 'tích cực cạnh tranh' cao nếu nó quyết liệt thực hiện nhiều hành động và nhiều dạng thức khác nhau để vượt trội hơn so với các đối thủ trong thị trường. Các học giả về động lực cạnh tranh đã chỉ ra rằng những công ty có mức độ tích cực cạnh tranh cao thường đạt được lợi nhuận tốt hơn và thị phần lớn hơn so với những công ty chỉ thực hiện một số ít hành động đơn giản. Đ Given the highly competitive and rapidly changing environments that developed country-based firms have to cope with when entering certain emerging economies, various authors have recently argued that the analysis of this unexplored relationship is an apt research issue. Bài báo này kiểm tra mối quan hệ giữa sự tích cực cạnh tranh và hiệu suất với một mẫu gồm 90 công ty Ý thâm nhập và cạnh tranh tại thị trường Trung Quốc trong giai đoạn 2001-2010. Kết quả cho thấy có mối quan hệ tích cực giữa sự tích cực cạnh tranh của một công ty trong một nền kinh tế mới nổi và hiệu suất của nó, đồng thời mối quan hệ này bị điều chỉnh tiêu cực bởi mức độ kiểm soát của phương thức thâm nhập, và ảnh hưởng điều chỉnh của mức độ mà ngành của công ty trong nền kinh tế mới nổi bị ảnh hưởng bởi các khoảng trống thể chế là không đáng kể.
