Tóm tắt

Astaxanthin (3,3′-dihydroxy-β,β-caroten-4,4′-dion), một carotenoid có giá trị cao, có nhiều ứng dụng trong ngành thực phẩm, thức ăn chăn nuôi, dinh dưỡng và dược phẩm, đã thu hút sự chú ý lớn từ khoa học và cộng đồng trong những năm gần đây. Vi tảo xanh Haematococcus pluvialis và Chlorella zofingiensis đại diện cho các nhà sản xuất astaxanthin tự nhiên hứa hẹn nhất. Mặc dù H. pluvialis có hàm lượng astaxanthin nội bào cao nhất và hiện được tin là một nhà sản xuất tốt của astaxanthin, nó có các nhược điểm nội tại như tốc độ sinh trưởng chậm, năng suất sinh khối thấp và yêu cầu ánh sáng cao. Ngược lại, C. zofingiensis có tốc độ sinh trưởng nhanh theo cách quang tự dưỡng, dị dưỡng và hỗn hợp, dễ nuôi trồng và có thể mở rộng cả trong nhà và ngoài trời, và có thể đạt được mật độ tế bào rất cao. Những đặc điểm công nghệ sinh học mạnh mẽ này cung cấp cho C. zofingiensis tiềm năng cao hơn để trở thành một sinh vật tốt hơn H. pluvialis cho sản xuất astaxanthin hàng loạt. Bài đánh giá này nhằm cung cấp một tổng quan về sinh học và tiềm năng công nghiệp của C. zofingiensis như một nhà sản xuất astaxanthin thay thế. Con đường tiến lên để mở rộng thêm sản xuất astaxanthin từ C. zofingiensis liên quan đến cả thách thức và cơ hội cũng được thảo luận.
