Kỳ thi tình trạng tâm lý mini (MMSE) đã được điều chỉnh bởi các quốc gia riêng lẻ theo ngôn ngữ và văn hóa của họ, mặc dù nó chưa được so sánh một cách hệ thống. Mục tiêu của nghiên cứu này là so sánh những biến thể ngôn ngữ và văn hóa của MMSE được sử dụng ở nhiều quốc gia châu Á. Với điều này, chúng tôi có thể phân tích các điểm mạnh và điểm yếu của MMSE và xem xét việc sử dụng một phiên bản chung trong các nghiên cứu lâm sàng quốc tế trong tương lai tại châu Á. Chúng tôi đã thu thập các phiên bản MMSE được sử dụng ở 11 quốc gia châu Á. Sau khi dịch chúng sang tiếng Anh, chúng tôi đã so sánh để hiểu sự khác biệt trong các bảng câu hỏi liên quan đến khía cạnh văn hóa. Nhiều mục có thể áp dụng hoặc so sánh với một vài điều chỉnh nhỏ, đối với các quốc gia châu Á. Tuy nhiên, sự chú ý, tính toán và lặp lại có thể khó so sánh. Có một số sự khác biệt trong nội dung và cách thực hiện. Việc thiếu sự xem xét các khác biệt văn hóa và ảnh hưởng của chúng đến việc giải thích cùng một bài kiểm tra nhận thức khiến các nghiên cứu xuyên văn hóa trở nên khó khăn. Một số mục của các nhiệm vụ MMSE cần được điều chỉnh lại cho, nếu có, các nghiên cứu đa quốc gia. Nghiên cứu này có thể đóng vai trò như một bước đầu tiên trong sự phát triển của một công cụ nhận thức tiêu chuẩn hóa xuyên văn hóa, đặc biệt là ở châu Á.
