Tần suất và cường độ của các thảm họa tự nhiên như bão, cháy rừng và lũ lụt được dự đoán sẽ thay đổi khi nồng độ khí nhà kính tăng lên. Những thảm họa này có thể đại diện cho các nguồn thông tin cho cá nhân khi họ cập nhật niềm tin liên quan đến biến đổi khí hậu. Sử dụng một tập dữ liệu bao gồm niềm tin về khí hậu của các đáp viên, chúng tôi khảo sát tác động của các thảm họa tự nhiên đến niềm tin về biến đổi khí hậu và phát hiện rằng bão có tác động đáng kể đến khả năng mà các đáp viên khảo sát từ một hạt nhất định tin rằng biến đổi khí hậu đang diễn ra và rằng nó do con người gây ra.
