Nghiên cứu bảo tồn cơ tim trong phẫu thuật tim hở ở trẻ em đã được thực hiện bằng cách lấy mẫu sinh thiết từ thất phải tại thời điểm bắt đầu và kết thúc của quá trình bắc cầu bằng kim sinh thiết Tru-Cut. Ba đánh giá đã được sử dụng: (1) đánh giá hóa học tế bào bán định lượng phản ứng của hematin axit Baker và phân bố của succinate dehydrogenase và myosin ATPase; (2) viêm độ kính của hoạt động succinate dehydrogenase; và (3) đo lường phân cực định lượng để đánh giá sự phản ứng của các sợi cơ tim với ATP và canxi.
