Tóm tắtQuá trình tuần tự có tổ chức của các sự kiện trong chu kỳ tế bào được điều chỉnh một cách cẩn thận. Một phần của sự điều chỉnh này phụ thuộc vào hệ thống tín hiệu canxi phổ biến. Nhiều yếu tố tăng trưởng sử dụng chất truyền tin inositol trisphosphate (InsP3) để thiết lập các tín hiệu canxi kéo dài, thường được tổ chức theo mô hình dao động. Những cú sốc canxi lặp đi lặp lại này yêu cầu cả việc đưa canxi từ bên ngoài vào và giải phóng nó từ các kho dự trữ bên trong. Một chức năng của tín hiệu canxi này là kích hoạt các gene sớm ngay lập tức có trách nhiệm gửi tín hiệu cho các tế bào nghỉ ngơi (G0) tái gia nhập chu kỳ tế bào.
