The C-A-P genie complex for anthocyanin pigmentation in the apiculus of japonica rice has been recently found to be also applicable to indica rice. The present investigation reveals a considerable difference in the nature and the number of localization genes. Accordingly, the complementary genie complex for anthocyanin pigmentation in the apiculus of both japonica and indica rices is C-A-PaPbor C-A-PaPcor C-A-PbPc. Any two of the localization genes (Pa, Pb, Pc,) together also act as basic genes for other localization genes governing anthocyanin pigmentation in all other parts of the plant.
