Tiềm năng của việc kết hợp tăng cường sinh học với phục hồi sinh thái để đồng thời xử lý và sử dụng nước thải đã xử lý từ nhà máy chế biến dầu cọ (TPOME) trong sản xuất thức ăn cho động vật đã được xác định thông qua việc giảm hợp chất phenolic và màu sắc trong nước rỉ leachate từ đất, cũng như tăng sản lượng cỏ chăn nuôi. Hai loại vi khuẩn phân hủy phenol—Methylobacterium sp. NP3 và Acinetobacter sp. PK1—đã được cấy vào vùng rễ của Brachiaria humidicola trước khi áp dụng TPOME. Một nghiên cứu trong chậu cho thấy rằng đất có cả cỏ và vi khuẩn đã được cấy có hiệu suất khử phenol và khử màu sắc cao nhất, với khả năng tối đa loại bỏ 70% trong tổng số 587 mg hợp chất phenolic đã thêm vào và 73% từ 4438 đơn vị màu sắc trong suốt mười chu trình ứng dụng TPOME.
