Tóm tắtCác gốc sulfate đã ngày càng được sử dụng để inactivate các tác nhân gây bệnh do khả năng oxy hóa khử mạnh mẽ và tính chọn lọc cao đối với các loài giàu electron trong thập kỷ qua. Ứng dụng của các gốc sulfate trong khử trùng nước đã trở thành một công nghệ hứa hẹn. Tuy nhiên, hiện tại thiếu các bài tổng quan về việc gốc sulfate inactivate các vi sinh vật gây bệnh. Đồng thời, ít chú ý đã được dành cho các sản phẩm phụ khử trùng được tạo ra từ việc sử dụng gốc sulfate để inactivate vi sinh vật. Bài viết này bắt đầu bằng một cái nhìn tổng quan ngắn gọn về các thuộc tính của gốc sulfate. Sau đó, tiến trình khử trùng nước bằng gốc sulfate được tóm tắt. Cơ chế và động học inactivate các vi sinh vật được mô tả một cách ngắn gọn. Tiếp theo, các sản phẩm phụ khử trùng được sản xuất từ phản ứng của gốc sulfate với clo, brom, ion iod và các halogen hữu cơ trong nước cũng được thảo luận. Để đối phó với những thách thức có thể xảy ra này, bài báo kết luận với một số giải pháp cụ thể và định hướng nghiên cứu trong tương lai.
