Các bệnh liên quan đến tình trạng dày thành túi mật bao gồm các thể lành tính như adenomyomatosis của túi mật, viêm túi mật cấp tính và mãn tính, cũng như sự tăng sinh liên quan đến sự nối tắc giữa tuyến tụy và đường mật, cùng với ung thư. Các tình trạng đặc biệt như viêm túi mật xơ hóa và viêm túi mật liên quan đến việc điều trị bằng chất ức chế điểm kiểm soát miễn dịch cũng có thể biểu hiện như tình trạng dày thành, giống như một số tình trạng viêm hệ thống. Ung thư túi mật, căn bệnh nghiêm trọng nhất có thể biểu hiện tình trạng dày thành, có thể khó chẩn đoán sớm và phân biệt với các nguyên nhân lành tính của dày thành, làm cho tiên lượng trở nên kém. Việc phân biệt giữa viêm túi mật xanthogranulomatous và ung thư túi mật với tình trạng dày thành có thể đặc biệt khó khăn. Các ung thư có thể làm dày thành trong khi đồng tồn tại với các tổn thương lành tính gây dày thành là một cạm bẫy tiềm ẩn khác. Ngược lại, một số tổn thương lành tính khác của túi mật có thể gây dày thành, chẳng hạn như adenomyomatosis và viêm túi mật cấp tính, thường thể hiện các đặc điểm siêu âm đặc trưng mà, cùng với các phát hiện lâm sàng, cho phép dễ dàng hơn trong chẩn đoán.
