Sự di căn cổ có ảnh hưởng lớn đến tiên lượng bệnh nhân mắc ung thư đầu và cổ, và tỷ lệ di căn như vậy thường lớn hơn 20% đối với hầu hết các ung thư biểu mô tế bào vẩy. Với các bằng chứng mới nổi lên, sự chú ý đang chuyển sang các thủ thuật cổ bảo tồn nhằm đạt được chức năng vai tốt mà không làm suy giảm an toàn ung thư. Mục đích của nghiên cứu này là phân tích mô hình di căn hạch lympho ở bệnh nhân mắc ung thư biểu mô tế bào vẩy niêm mạc miệng. Đây là một phân tích lâm sàng theo hướng triển vọng của những bệnh nhân được chẩn đoán mô học mắc ung thư biểu mô tế bào vẩy của khoang miệng và có tình trạng lâm sàng N1, không nhận được điều trị ở nơi khác. Bệnh nhân được phân tích theo sự phân bố về độ tuổi và giới, giai đoạn khối u, vị trí, và di căn. Tỷ lệ hạch lympho di căn ở mức T4 (n=44) là cao nhất, tức là mức I là 100% (44/44), mức II là 43,18% (19/44), mức III là 15,90% (7/44), và mức IV là 4,5% (2/44). Mức V không có di căn. Trong số các tổn thương T3 (n=10), tỷ lệ di căn ở mức I là 100% (10/10), mức II là 20% (2/10), và mức III, IV, và V không có di căn. Trong số các tổn thương T2 (n=6), tỷ lệ di căn hạch lympho ở mức I là 100% (6/6) và tất cả các mức hạch lympho khác đều không có di căn. Sự lan tỏa qua lympho từ ung thư niêm mạc miệng là thấp.
