Hiện nay, làm việc theo nhóm trở nên rất phổ biến và thông dụng trong hầu hết các môi trường chuyên nghiệp. Do đó, sinh viên, những người lao động tiềm năng, cần phải tiếp thu năng lực làm việc nhóm trong các cơ sở giáo dục của họ. Tuy nhiên, khi sinh viên làm việc theo nhóm, việc đánh giá kết quả cuối cùng của họ là khá dễ dàng nhưng việc đánh giá cách mỗi sinh viên, một cách riêng lẻ, phát triển năng lực làm việc nhóm thì lại không dễ dàng như vậy. Theo nghĩa này, có nhiều phương pháp và những phương pháp có kết quả tốt hơn là những phương pháp khám phá các tương tác của sinh viên trên các nền tảng học tập khi thực hiện hoạt động/dự án. Cần lưu ý rằng, các tương tác của sinh viên không chỉ diễn ra trên nền tảng học tập mà còn thông qua các công cụ khác như công cụ nhắn tin tức thì. Bài báo này khám phá khả năng đánh giá việc sử dụng các công cụ nhắn tin tức thì cho việc tiếp thu năng lực làm việc nhóm, và cụ thể, nó trình bày một nghiên cứu trường hợp về việc sử dụng WhatsApp. Từ những kết quả thu được, chúng ta có thể kết luận rằng sinh viên thích sử dụng công cụ nhắn tin tức thì trong các hoạt động làm việc nhóm hơn là các công cụ tương tác khác như diễn đàn; và rằng việc sử dụng những công cụ này có tác động tích cực đến điểm số của sinh viên.
