Ô nhiễm asen trong nước uống đã vượt ra ngoài ranh giới địa lý và trở thành một mối đe dọa kinh tế-xã hội toàn cầu. Các quốc gia bị ảnh hưởng chính bao gồm Argentina, Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, Chile, Trung Quốc, Hy Lạp, Hungary, Ấn Độ, Nhật Bản, Mexico, Mông Cổ, New Zealand, Nam Phi, Philippines, Đài Loan, Thái Lan, Hoa Kỳ và Liên Xô. Bài bình luận này thảo luận về nguyên nhân và tác động của việc ngộ độc asen mãn tính cùng với các công nghệ gần đây liên quan đến việc loại bỏ asen khỏi nước uống bị ô nhiễm. Do sự lan rộng và tỷ lệ tử vong thảm khốc do ô nhiễm ở Bangladesh, chúng tôi tập trung vào quốc gia này như một ví dụ điển hình của nhiều nơi trên thế giới.
