Mặc dù có vị trí trung tâm trong lịch sử tư tưởng châu Âu và Kitô giáo về việc bảo vệ nhân phẩm, đức tính của lòng thương xót hiện đang là một khái niệm còn nhiều vấn đề và chưa được phát triển trong đạo đức kinh doanh, so với các ý tưởng liên quan như sự quan tâm, lòng từ bi hay lòng nhân ái.
