Bằng cách tiêm phẩm nhuộm huỳnh quang Lucifer Yellow vào các tế bào sản xuất Hormone Tăng đường huyết ở giáp xác (CHH), hình dạng của các tế bào thần kinh tiết ở ống mắt của tôm hùm Astacus leptodactylus có thể được theo dõi. Một perikaryon phát quang mạnh tạo ra một trục thần kinh có thể được theo dấu bằng dấu huỳnh quang đến vùng thần kinh huyết, tuyến xoang. Phần gốc của trục thần kinh đó gửi ra nhiều nhánh rộng rãi vào vùng thần kinh của tủy giữa. Các nghiên cứu điện tử cho thấy có đầu vào synapse đến các nhánh trục thần kinh này.
