Nhiều chiết xuất nấm chứa kháng sinh đã được thử nghiệm để đánh giá hoạt tính ức chế nấm đối với Cercospora nicotianae, nguyên nhân gây ra bệnh “mắt ếch” trên cây thuốc lá ở vùng nhiệt đới. Hoạt tính của các chiết xuất chứa actinomycin, streptomycin và viridin thể hiện rất yếu; một chiết xuất chứa streptothricin có tiềm năng hơn một chút; clavacin nguyên chất có tính ức chế nấm đối với Cercospora ở nồng độ từ 1 đến 50.000, nhưng đã làm cháy lá thuốc lá ở nồng độ 1 đến 25.000.
