Bất chấp tác động nghiêm trọng của HIV tại khu vực cận Sahara châu Phi, sức khỏe của những người lớn tuổi từ 50 trở lên thường bị bỏ qua do thiếu dữ liệu về những tác động trực tiếp và gián tiếp của HIV đến tình trạng sức khỏe và sự an lành của họ.
